Christmas isn't over yet!

Most people here in Australia remove all the Christmas decor a day or two after Christmas Day, or maybe leave it up until NYE.

In Sweden we keep decorations up until 20 days after Christmas. It's an old tradition where we have a big party, eat the last bit of the Christmas food - the edible Christmas decoration included (eg. gingerbread cookie decor with hard icing or other candy decorations) and dance Christmas out out the house and throw the tree out in the snow as well.

Personally, I keep my home christmasy for much longer... In fact, I'm still decorating my house. I feel the Christmas holiday went too quickly. It wasn't a long celebration for us, even though we started on Christmas Eve. I think it's because hubby worked so much it didn't feel we celebrated at all, even though we opened Christmas presents two days in a row and had two Christmas dinners, one Swedish and one Australian.

So, there will be more Christmas posts... 'cause Christmas isn't over yet!

  3. Oh how fun. I think it is a shame when it is all over, it really doesn't last that long. Hugs, marty

  4. Sounds like a fun tradition. I was brought up with this supposed Irish belief that it was bad luck to have your Christmas tree from the past year up in the new year. Now, I just feel the need to get it all down by the 31st but it is soo silly. I like your plan much better.

  5. Your holiday decorations are so pretty, I can see why you don't want to take them down, yet. I know a lot of folks who leave decor up through Jan 6th. I leave the tree and the nativity up through new years day, and then it all comes down. I'm always a little sad to see it go, but then happily settle in to the less cluttered look around my home again.
