Christmas Eve 2017

Christmas Eve breakfast

Traditional rice porridge/pudding with cinnamon sugar and milk.

This is the exact dish we place outside in the snow 

for our Tomte (Swedish Santa) instead of milk and cookies...

 

On Christmas Eve we lit the fourth candle.

Christmas Eve Buffet - A Swedish Christmas feast!

Christmas ham, pickled herring, cured salmon (gravlax/gravlox) meatballs, beetroot salad, jellied veal, egg halves with aioli and roe and wort bread - all made by yours truly!

First of Advent... Broadbeach Markets and Swedish Church

Before Mum travelled back home to Sweden,

we spent a few hours at the Broadbeach Markets.

The markets are only a short walk from the beach.

After being at the markets,

we went to the Swedish Church in Brisbane.

First of Advent and an early Lucia Celebration.

It was hot and humid outside, but inside the church

you could really feel the Christmas spirit

thanks to the students from the Swedish Saturday School.

The scent of Christmas

Christmas Eve seems so long ago.

I'm already starting to think about this years festivities.

Well, not really... only a thought or two ☺

So hard to let go of the decorations.

The pomanders are gone - they didn't last long.

The scent was beautiful though.

Oranges and cloves - the perfume of Christmas.

Wonder if could be bottled?!

3rd of Advent

 Oh, my... Time flies!

Today we light the third candle, 

which means it's only one Sunday left before Christmas...

I feel a slight panic coming on, as I don't feel prepared or ready yet.

So much to do - so little time!

Life gets easier with some Christmas music though ☺

First Sunday of Advent

 

The first candle is lit. Only three Sundays to go. 

Christmas will be here before we know it.

We started decorating today.

The wreaths are up. 

My Swedish Advent candle holder is spreading light in the window,

Had a really lovely day decorating and listening to Christmas music.

Fourth of Advent!

It's such a nice tradition to light one candle each Sunday. Today it's time to light the fourth and last one before Christmas.
