Wow, Friday already!

Wow, Friday already... Can't believe how fast this first week of the school holidays has gone. Hope you all have had a great week wherever you are in the world!

My aim for the weekend and the week ahead is to tidy up the house,
especially those spaces that don't get much attention normally
- like the pantry for example.
I had planned to do a total pantry overhaul
during the last Christmas holidays,
but I couldn't find the inspiration...

Hopefully I can find inspiration during this school holiday.

It's sometimes hard,
especially when I sit down on my wooden kitchen sofa
with a book or a interior decorating magazine.

...and I'm totally surrounded by my Swedish Dala horses and textiles...

My Swedish style is so calming
- no wonder I don't get much work done lol

Have a great weekend you all!

Blue n Yellow in my heart

Feeling a bit extra Swedish this time of the year,
due to all the Swedish celebrations going on.

Maybe I'm missing my old home country too, perhaps...
It's been about 15 years since I experienced a Swedish Summer.

Luckily, I have all these Swedish decorations to bring out year after year!

Not sure why I didn't post anything,
- I was probably too busy baking☺

Midsummer Celebrations in Brisbane 2014

Family, Friends, Food and lots of Fun!

We celebrated Swedish Midsummer in Brisbane yesterday
with traditional dancing, singing and family friendly activities.

Lily really got into the spirit of midsummer...

while big brother Jonah rather played soccer!

They both enjoyed a Swedish hot dog each.

My treat for the day was a baguette with prawns, mayo, dill, lettuce and lemon.
So yummy!

***
We had a great day celebrating Swedish Midsummer.
Lots of photos were taken.
I had fun playing with filters on Instagram.
In the end, I chose the filter called 1977.
Funny thing is that some of the photos have such a 70s feel
and I could have been the little girl.

The weather was perfect.
- lots of summer dresses, shorts and t-shirts.
A beautiful winter's day in the southern hemisphere.

My mum celebrated Midsummer in Sweden
dressed in thermal underwear, pants, knitted sweater and a raincoat
plus accompanied by an umbrella. Freezing!

Swedish National Day 2014

Sweden Day was celebrated on the 6th of June.
I had too much on my mind, so I totally forgot to post my blog entry.
Oops☺
Here it is... Enjoy!

I've used photos from Instagram.
The filter used is called 'Toaster' and I really like its glow.
- feels very vintage, don't you think?

If you use Instagram, which one is your favourite filter?

Finally Autumn!

Wow,
Autumn is finally here.
We are finally going towards cooler months.
Yay☺
Yesterday was the first day of Autumn here in the Southern hemisphere,
but it doesn't mean we are going to need jumpers and scarves
any time soon.

Temperatures for the coming week: +28-29°C (82-84°F)
Sounds quite pleasant, don't you think?!

Next week also has an important date in the Swedish calendar.
On Tuesday, we celebrate Fettisdagen.
In English, it's called Shrove Tuesday
and it's the day preceding Ash Wednesday.

We celebrate the day by eating a 'semla' or two...
If you'r not familiar with the term semla,
take a look at Wikipedia page here for an explanation.

I love keeping my Swedish traditions going,
so I've already made a batch of semlor,
ready to be enjoyed on Tuesday.

I have to admit though,
We had some for dessert today and they were truly scrumptious.
Already looking forward to Tuesday!

Have a great night, dear blog friends☺

Snowing in Sweden

So nice to hear that parts of Sweden finally got some snow - better late than never!
Winter time should be cold with lots of snow.

I'm enjoying +29°C /84.2°F here in sunny Queensland☺

Have a lovely weekend!

Dreaming of snow, cold and darkness

Today is going to be a hot day.
It's been predicted that the temperature will reach 40-42°C, approx 104-108°F.

***
I'm dreaming of a snowy, cold and gloomy day in the north of Sweden.
After a long walk, come inside and have a cup of hot chocolate or glühwein.
Bliss...
My cheeks are still hurting from the cold outside.
My feet are slowly getting warm.
My hot drink is warming me up from the inside.

***
Already 30°C/86°F and it's only morning.
It's definitely going to be a hot day.

Stay safe everyone - and drink lots of water!

OMG, I've been dying to show you...

My mum sent out an early birthday present for my 40th!
Yep, I'll be 40 in a few days...

It was so exciting opening the parcel from Sweden.
The surprise look on my face when I saw what she had sent me - priceless☺
I couldn't believe it!!

It was an antique wooden tray used in farm kitchens a long long time ago...

It's been a dream of mine to own one.

Now, I have all these ideas of how to decorate it.
Looking forward to Christmas...
Just sayin'

Oh, my... it's going to look amazing!

A perfect gift for me♥
So happy she was able to get a hold on one.
Wooden trays are very sought after in Sweden.

A simple display of faux apples in my beautiful tray.
The apples were a gift from my dad♥ many years ago.

Two perfect gifts together as one.
Nice and simple, just the way I like it.

Hope you all have a great weekend and fab week ahead.
Hugs from an almost 40 year old!

My all time favourite Swedish artist

Carl Larsson was a Swedish painter and interior designer
(1853-1919)
My all time favourite artist and source of inspiration

An assortment of books with Carl Larsson's art

Carl Larsson painted his and his family's life in Dalarna,
a county in the middle of Sweden.

If you ever travel to Sweden,
I'd suggest a visit to Carl Larsson's home in Sundborn.
I was there once in the mid 1980's.
My dream is to return and experience the beauty as an adult.
